user goes straight into CLI from an installed bootfloppy to use maximum

Although, i cant really know, i would suspect that when they started to
design Elate they looked around to see what they wanted to put into the
OS, for wherever it came. Multitasking, Threads, Hard/Soft Realtime,
VMemory and (a decent stack !!). Whereas QNX got lumped with BSD4.3
code, like i giant kernel, lack of shared (dynamic) libs, pretty damn
large code footprint, but if QNX dident come from unix then this would
be irrelivant.

I would have said 256K, but then the A500 was the first Amiga and that came
with 512K, so that'd be silly...

What you need is a 10/100 *AUTOSENSING* and *INDEPENDANT* hub, that'll
support Different rates on different ports.

An Intel (Spit spit) or 3com one should do the job...

It works fine here. I get decode speeds of 7X while burning to CD at the
same time. With a reasonable sized buffer, it's easy to do on the fly
burning to an 8X drive, since TAO doesn't mind pauses between tracks
while the buffer refills.

A G4 should do 12X on the fly.

Simple; in seven days, anything you post is likely to have already been
posted by someone else. Other threads are long dead, or have advanced to
other subjects.

Sending out that many mails in one day is a) annoying, because it's just
retreading old territory, and b) impolite, as you're taking up a large
proportion of the daily limit on topics that we're not even talking
about anymore.

Seems unlikely to me. Where's the BSD license?

Plus, the core of the QNX microkernel is 8K and only performs message
passing IPC and process scheduling. Nothing else has to execute in kernel
mode. Does this sound like BSD?

As understand, Elate was born from work in the computer games industry. It
is designed expressly for multimedia content delivery (not much different
from a certain other OS, one could say). POSIX compatability is provided
through a library module.

Where did you get this picture of QNX? It is very modular.

57 apparently (</pedantry>), of which most had been answered and to which
your additional reply (and in some cases, replies) added nothing.  This mail
just happened to be the one which irritated me - every time someone starts a
poll and forgets to add the date, at least 3 people point out (on the day
it's started) that it hasn't got a date.  Pointing it out 5 days later is a
pointless waste of time and you know it.

What's wrong with that is that there is a daily posting limit and some
people are only able to post at the weekends.  If you use up two thirds of
the limit all on your own then you're stopping other people from posting.

No, as I said previously - the nature of mailing lists is that threads
evolve and change; this thread is a perfect example. Posting replies to
old topics that are finished is annoying; if it's a reply to a question
posted by another user, fair enough, but it'd be even easier to reply
via private email.

I replied, with a time-stamp of '21-Feb-00 13:34'.

It's really upto each individual user to look at the time-stamp and then
decide if their mail is relevant or not.  Of course, everybody should have
their clock set to the correct time.  :)

Maybe checking the time-stamp should become part of the AFB rules.

I've been trying to use a pc format hard disk on my Amiga for
a few days and I'm having a few probs..  I installed the drive
and set it to use crossdosfilesystem. This seemed to work fine
so I tried to format it, but got an error at the end of the format.
Am I going about this the wrong way?

At one point I considered pouring the tea into one of the babies cups and
tucking the handle into the top of my plaster,
then I decided to put the cup on a tray and then slide the tray into the

Not exactly an offer, but try the companies that advertise in Computer Music
(another Future publication) - ISTR Turnkey (central London) had some in
stock not so long ago.  Alternatively, I can highly reccomend the MU-10XG (a
DB50 in a standalone box plus A/D sockets).

Hi all,

Had something lined up for our following issue's cover CD as well, but my
publisher tells me that there weren't (or haven't been) any more sales of
AF134 to warrant putting expensive software on the disc. Shame really - I
contacted a few of the people who were mentioned as part of the guessing
game as to what was going on AF135...

Maybe that's for the best, after all, look at what the discussions on AF135

V is not quite as stable as iBrowse 1.2x just yet, at least for my

Which version of ioblixpar.device are you using? Early versions needed
NSD patch. Later versions included Setdevice to redirect the output to
the card. OS 3.5 has this built in. If you previously had the printer
working then upgraded the software, you may need to remove the
previous method of re-direction.

Pants, and are there no 100mbit cards for the miggy at all? :/ even if the
pcmcia port cant go that fast, I need it to connect to the network. do any

Well, I tried the demo but, it just wasn't very good TBH, and it runs like
mud on my 030. I was gonna get a ppc and bvision from amibench, sent the
mail 30 minutes after he put it up, but the bvision was gone and the ppc
card was fetching more than a new one would have cost :(

2 = Disable board altogether

S = Disables SCSI

M = Disable the memory only

ESC = Enter PPC bootup screeWhile resetting, hold down the reset keys for a
short time to re-enable the board....
